Retro Swedish Ball Bedside Table Wall Lamp Sconce

Vintage ball lamp in a very unusual colour - a deep metallic shade of green.

My sister and I had lamps like these above our beds when we were children!

Vintage magnetic all-metal ball lamp, designed in Denmark by Benny Frandsen in 1968.

This style of lamp was produced by several lighting companies in Denmark and Sweden in the 1970s and 1980s and this particular one was made in Sweden by Artilux.

The enamel coated ball is connected by magnetism to its stand, enabling it be moved to direct the light as required.

The stand can be used as a base for a table lamp or attached to the wall as wall light. When removed from its stand the lamp can be hung from the ceiling as a small pendant light.

Approximately 15cm high and 10cm wide.

Very good fully working vintage condition with a few minor signs of age as shown in the photos, mainly scratches.

The wiring will have been checked and updated as necessary to ensure it complies with current UK electrical regulations.

Fitted with a new UK plug.

Takes a E14 SES bulb, maximum 40w (not included). Would have traditionally had a 'golfball' shaped bulb. We recommend using LED bulbs as the metal can get very hot with incandescent bulbs.

Frandsen's 1968 design was probably influenced by fellow Dane Verner Panton's 1959 'Topan' Lamp. The Frandsen Ball was originally produced as a pendant and magnetic wall lamp in brown and orange, the fashionable colours of the day.

The magnetic wall lamp, in particular, became extremely popular in Denmark in the 1970s/80s and most Danish homes would have had at least one.

These days ball lamps are made by the Frandsen company in China, but back then they were made by several Scandinavian lighting companies.
