Rewire & Refurbishment of Vintage Table Lamp With Glass Shade

Work carried out as follows:

• Lamp completely taken apart, stripped of old wiring and cleaned up
• Lamp noted to require retro-earthing to meet UK electrical safety standards 
• Lamp rewired with 2m brown braided Italian fabric cable from lamp base to the plug, including rewiring the existing switch into a new housing, isolating the wires (a safety enhancement).
• Existing lamp holder rewired with screw clamps soldered to the cable. Originally, the wires were wrapped around the screw terminals. Additional heat shrink added to live and neutral for better isolation. All safety enhancements.
• Cable strain relief added inside housing to the braided brown cable including rubber grommet for where the cable enters the lamp to prevent the metal cutting into the cable (further safety enhancements).
• The screw holes for the rear plate were damaged. These were re threaded and two new screws have been fitted.
• Rewiring the curved arm was quite tricky and several cable options were tried before a suitable one that was thin and flexible enough to feed through the narrow housing.
• New UK plug fitted.
