Rewire of three vintage brass/copper table lamps

• All lamps earthed in line with current UK electrical safety standards for metal lighting
• Safety enhancements added.
• New B22 lampholders fitted in old brass finish
• Rewired with earthed braided brown cable.
• Black plugs fitted.

Copper Barrel Lamp

• Replacement of old lampholder as it could not be earthed (the lamp had been retro-earthed in a non-compliant way via an earthing point in the top).
• Removal of glued-in threaded rod, and replacement as existing rod was not compatible with standard lampholder sizes.
• It was noted that the top rattled slightly when in situ and, in order for earthing to be safely achieved, there must be a constant metal to metal connection to remediate this I:
  • Ground down patina on non-visible part of the top to expose metal.
  • Replaced existing earthing point with a new one including a nut and custom-tooled plate (necessary because of the sloping shape of the lamp) that makes constant connection.
  • Nut & washer added at each end of new rod to hold in place and ensure continuity of earthing connection (original rod was glued which is not compliant).
• Addition of rubber grommet where cable exits at the top to protect the cable against sharp metal.
