A Dash To Denmark Before The Lamp Season Starts!

Covid has affected us all in so many ways and Scandiwegians has been no exception. Travel restrictions meant we couldn't visit Denmark for a whole year.

When we finally could travel to Denmark, in September 2021, we had to rush there to collect all the stock that was waiting for us, get it back to the UK, prepared and online ready for our busiest time of the year - The Lamp Season!

A Day Off At The Seaside After Working All Week At Brentford FC

As well as Scandiwegians, I also have a 'day job' I do when my services are required. It's installing and maintaining electrical tv broadcasting equipment at major sports grounds like Wembley, Wimbledon and English Premier League ("EPL") football grounds. June and July is the peak period as that's when the EPL isn't playing, so work can be done on their grounds. How much work is required, so whether they need me, depends on which teams get promoted to the EPL each year. This year Brentford*, a team that had never been in the EPL before, got promoted so they needed a new installation. Brentford is in London,...

A Vintage Danish Floor Lamp Goes To Live At The English Seaside

There can be few items of furniture or homewares as archetypally Danish as the floor lamp. As many Danish homes don’t have light fittings in the centre of the ceiling, as is standard many other countries, floor lamps are routinely used as a main light source, especially is living rooms. But as much as we love floor lamps, we rarely sell them. For us they are difficult to get home, tricky to refurbish, awkward to photograph, they take up valuable storage space and, lastly, they are a complete and utter pain to pack and post! This beauty was therefore a...

The Scandiwegians Become Excluded

When I moved to the UK ten years ago, I studied Electrical & Electronic Engineering. Straight after graduating, I got work as a technician, installing and maintaining the fibre optics used to broadcast sports events, primarily English Premier League football matches. It was good to travel all around the country (and even overseas) but it meant a lot of time away, and working outside in all weathers, often in cramped and dirty conditions - we are often called to repair cables that have been chewed through by rats! Meanwhile Corinna commuted every day into London's financial district to work as an...

The Scandiwegians Become Cellar Dwellers

And how we ended up taking our product photos in a very unusual spot! The Scandiwegians live in a beautiful 150 year old cottage and we absolutely love it. But it had some big disadvantages - it was very small, rather dark, ridiculously draughty and, most inconvenient of all, the staircase was so narrow and winding that we couldn't get furniture upstairs! To get furniture in or out of the upstairs rooms we had to remove the windows including the frames and hoist things through the first floor windows, which wasn't exactly practical.  So we saved and saved and saved and when...
