A Vintage Danish Floor Lamp Goes To Live At The English Seaside

There can be few items of furniture or homewares as archetypally Danish as the floor lamp. As many Danish homes don’t have light fittings in the centre of the ceiling, as is standard many other countries, floor lamps are routinely used as a main light source, especially is living rooms. But as much as we love floor lamps, we rarely sell them. For us they are difficult to get home, tricky to refurbish, awkward to photograph, they take up valuable storage space and, lastly, they are a complete and utter pain to pack and post! This beauty was therefore a...

The Democratisation of Design in Northern Europe - Part 2

During the 1960s and 1970s there was still a mass manufacturing industry in Northern Europe and the latest cutting edge designs began to be incorporated into everyday household goods. The war had changed things. Huge social and cultural changes took place in the 1960s which, combined with technological advances and increased wealth & leisure time lead to a consumer boom. These were unprecedented times and they led to a surge of artistic creativity.

An Unusual Journey Home - Part 2: Denmark

We had a wonderful time in Denmark. As always my parents looked after us so well that it almost gets embarrassing and we tell them they really don't need to take such good care of us and make us such wonderful food. My parents live in a seaside town that still has a traditional working fishing harbour. My dad loves to go to the fishmongers on the harbourside that sells an amazing range of seafood, both fresh off the boat and freshly smoked or otherwise prepared on the premises. When we visited last summer the fishmonger saw Corinna's delight at the...
