Large Vintage Purple Glass 1960s Lamp with Handmade Vintage Fabric Lampshade

Stunning European- made lamp, with a cool mid century hooped shape, and in a great colour.

PLUS has great functionality - has a bulb inside the glass as well as the normal one on top. The bulb inside the glass operates independently, so you could choose to have just the cosy glow from the purple glass, which is a quite special feature.

Opaque plum purple coloured glass with an aluminium base.

This table lamp is often incorrectly attributed to Holmegaard of Denmark.

It was actually made by De Rupel Glass (Belgium 1925-71) for Massive Lighting (Belgium founded 1926) in the 1960s.

The handmade lamp shade was custom made by Witty Dawn using vintage Bernard Wardle fabric (see below). It is in gorgeous, vibrant shades of green with plum purple highlights that work beautifully with the colour of the lamp.

The lamp is approximately 35cm high, including the lamp fitting, and 20cm wide. Including the shade it is 70cm tall.

Excellent fully working vintage condition with no chips and only minor signs of age such as small scratches and scuffs. Rewired with a new white Bakelite E27 lampholder.

Bernard Wardle & Co. produced high quality fabrics in Cheshire, England and in the 1950s/60s they used leading designers to make fabrics for high end stores including Heals of London. Bernard Wardle designs are displayed at the V&A Museum in London.

We can fit a British/Irish, European, Aus/NZ or American/Canadian* plug.

Takes an E27 bulb on top and an E14 bulb inside.

* If used in the USA/100/110/120v we recommend using an energy saving/LED bulb. E26 bulbs should work but because they are 1mm smaller they should be fully turned to ensure they make contact with the fitting. You can buy a E14>E12 adapter or a 120v compatible E14 lightbulb online.

This lamp takes a European type/size lampshade with a ring of 1.5 inches (3.6cm) or alternatively a lampshade that sits on the light bulb.
