Our Services:

Basic Rewire - using new cable to rewire and bring in line (or as in line as is possible) with current electrical safety regulations; or

Complete Refurbishment - as above plus taken apart, all parts cleaned, and includes replacing up to two basic old parts that cannot be re-used.

We use high quality parts, including European-made parts wherever possible.

Modern UK electrical safety standards require metal lighting to be earthed. However, because older or international lighting was often not designed to be earthed it has to be retro-earthed and often this is not straightforward, requiring a custom solution.

I will also add additional safety enhancements to your lamp when its design permits this.I only refurbish lighting from an electrical perspective, I cannot re-spray lighting or re-tool broken non-electrical parts.

Which Lamps Do We Refurbish:

Our basic rewire/refurbish service is for standard table lamps and pendant lamps with one standard light bulb fitting. If you have a lamp that is a bit unusual, or takes more than one light bulb (each bulb it takes is an additional fitting that needs to be rewired), get in touch for a quote. Note that large lamps may be subject to an additional postage cost.

Repair is subject to the availability of replacement parts, if you think your lamp has a broken part that it may be hard to source replacements for please contact us before purchase.

Outdoor lighting is only accepted subject to prior agreement.

Desk, Floor, Wall & Unusual Table Lamps

We can refurbish desk lamps, floor lamps and more unusual table lamps by prior agreement as we cannot guarantee we can find any spare parts that are required.

Please contact us if you have a desk lamp, floor or wall lamp, or unusual table lamp, in need of work. We will request a few photos of the electrical parts of these lamps to ascertain if we will be able to help.

We do rewire Anglepoise lamps, but these are fiddly and quite time-consuming, and as a guide we charge around £90 including any basic component parts that may need replacing.

Fase Boomerang lamps are even trickier and we charge £120/£140 depending on whether they have a swivel arm.

International Lighting

Most countries do not require lighting is earthed so this is a key amendment in converting international lighting for use in the UK.

Lighting from outside of Europe, including the USA, has a range of obstacles in conversion to UK electrical safety standards and, unfortunately, not all lighting can safely be converted, especially (part) metal lamps.

Choose Your Cable:

Standard colours: black and white round fabric cable (for pendant lamps), black, dark brown and dark navy blue braided fabric cable plus light blue, old gold and burnt orange braided fabric cable for non-metal lighting only. We can also use black, white or clear/transparent plastic cable if you would prefer. Just let us know your choice at checkout or via email.

Custom colours: for an additional charge we can use a special order colour such as red, purple and turquoise - just let know and we'll do our best to find the perfect colour! The cost will depend on the size of the lamp at a cost of £4 for metre with most small/medium sized table lamps requiring two metres, large table lamps and desk lamps averaging 3 metres and floor lamps averaging 4 metres.

For table lamps we will rewire your lamp using high quality vintage style braided cable in your choice of black, dark brown, dark blue, (all lamps) light blue, old gold and burnt orange (only those lamps that don't have metal lamp holders/fittings). 

For pendant lamps we recommend round cable. We will use black or white fabric cable as standard or for an additional charge you can choose a custom colour such as red, purple, turquoise, light blue, orange or gold.

Additional Parts

We may have to replace parts. If you have chosen the basic rewire service and new parts are required these will be charged at £5 per basic part. The replacement of up to two basic parts is included in the cost of the full refurbishment service.

Note that if your lamp requires replacement of a bespoke part, that will be subject to availability and an additional cost may be charged. If you think your lamp may have broken non-standard parts then please get in touch before before purchase.

Options With Parts

Switches: standard switches are black or white plastic. Clear (transparent) and gold switches are available as special order items. Dimmer switches are also available but these are expensive items and will add a cost of £25 per dimmer to your order.

Lampholders: the most frequently used new lampholders are E27 in black or white plastic with gold available as a special order item.

Depending on the lamp, we may also use plastic or metal B22 (traditional British) lampholders or E14 plastic lampholders - we will advise you if this is the case. These are included in the cost of basic parts.

Upgrades to beautiful, high quality British-made metal E27 lampholders in various finishes (nickel, brass etc) are available at a cost of £15 per metal lampholder.  More details of lampholders here.

Plugs: standard UK plugs are black or white with transparent available as a special order item.

Please Note

We promise to treat your lamps with great care but old things can be fragile and unfortunately there is the chance of breakages when they are being worked on. In particular plastic becomes brittle over time, and old paint has a tendency to flake off, especially after lengthy exposure to the heat of incandescent light-bulbs.

Timescales

Timescales can vary greatly but are typically between 1 week and 2 months. Please get in contact to find out the current time-frame.

Getting Your Lamp To Us

We operate a drop off/collection service from Reigate, Surrey RH2 or you can post the lamp to us and we will return in the post. You are responsible for postage costs in both directions. If an item is particularly large or fragile there may be additional postage costs to ensure your lamp is sufficiently protected.

If there are glass shades or similar large or fragile non-working parts, please remove and retain them prior to postage.
