Rewire of 6 vintage metal wall lamps, each with two lampholders in line with modern UK electrical safety standards.
- Cost was estimated at £80 per lamp up to £90 in event of unforeseeable circumstances.
- Lamps unwrapped and inspected, found to be two silver coloured and two brass coloured.
- It was a struggle to remove the existing brass B15 lampholders from the two silver coloured lamps as they were attached to unusual brass fittings which we wanted to retain as they are attractive and authentic to the lamp. Note: these are possibly a relic of previous adaption from oil/gas lamp to electric.
- Ultra thin earthed cable was found to feed through these lamps.
- The customer was offered the option of like for like B15 replacements or changing to B22, the more standard fitting. Customer chose B15s and these were ordered.
- The rewire was very fiddly and took quite a bit of patience and time due to the non-standard brass fittings hence £90 per lamp cost.
- These lamps were rewired ready to be hardwired into the mains by a suitably competent individual.
- The lampholders on the brass lamps were much easier to remove as they had standard fittings.
- Unfortunately, the ultra thin cable would not pass through them. I spent hours trying various options including part-drilling out the arm cavity and damaged some of my cable trying to force it through but just could not do it.
2 x rewires @£90 = £180 + £12 postage Royal Mail Tracked 48 = £192
