Refurbishment & Rewire of Vintage Chinese-Style Ceramic Table Lamp

Work undertaken as follows:

• Lamp taken apart and assessed. Found to require earthing but existing switched polished brass lampholder could not be earthed.
• Lamp cleaned and hardwood base treated with a wood conditioner.
• Photos taken of lampholder and cable options and sent to customer with details of choices and costings.
• Customer chose switched B22 lampholder in aged brass and old gold cable, same length as previous, which was c1.5m.
• White UK plug fitted.

Cost: £58 + £10 postage (Royal Mail Tracked 48 with signature, please advise if you would prefer a different Royal Mail Service)

In response to customer questions:

• It is believed that this style of lamp was made as a vase but with the intention that some of the stock would be converted to lamps. So it was probably routinely converted to a lamp at the point of manufacture, rather than individually at a later date.
• We do note that it seems to have two cable exit points, so may have been altered at some time, perhaps to convert it from an oil lamp to electric, which would obviously assist with dating it.
• We have no knowledge of either Chinese lamps, or lamps from before WW2, so cannot advise if this lamp is by a renowed maker or is a valuable model, but, even if it wasn't, lamps like this are worth in the region £100-£150, perhaps more.
