Rewire and Adaption to UK Electrical Safety Standards of 2 X African Copper Table Lamps

• Lampshades noted to have bayonet-sized rings which neccessitates replacement with bayonet fittings.
• Customer chose black braided cable, black switches and black plugs.
• Cost estimated at £65 per lamp unless unforeseeable circumstances arose.
• Lamp basees given a cosmetic clean up.
• Through careful removal of existing bonding material and application of force the lampholders were eventually removed.
• Internal channel was found to be in between the standard UK/European sizes of 10mm and 1/2 inch.
• The topmost copper part, where the lampholder would have to be fixed, was noted to be thin which limited options.
• Various options were explored to achieve a robust fixing of the lampholder whilst achieving the continuity of metal essential for electrical safety grounding. Unfortunately, none of the routine options worked so a custom solution was necessary.
• Parts were ordered to attempt a custom solution.
• New lamp holders fitted to large washer which has been drilled and threaded in such a way it could be screwed securely into the top of the lamp.
• Strain relief added to the button by fitting a piece of aluminium to the base where a small clamp could be screwed onto. Felt added to protect cable.
