Very Large Vintage Holmegaard Lamp - Cool and very rare rare multi glow function

This is a very rare and unusually large lamp - it's the only one of this style we have ever seen!

Very cool and special design with a useful multi glow feature to enable a very cosy hygge glow.

Other Holmegaard lamps just have the one standard bulb at the top, this lamp also has a bulb in the base so the white glass base can be illuminated, as well as the usual bulb at the top.

This enables the lamp itself to emit a cosy glow (if you wish) even when the bulb at the top is switched off.

Vintage Danish lamp in traditional Nordic white glass which is called 'Opal'.

The design is called 'Bibliotek' (library) and features a hooped, very mid century design, with satin steel detailing.

Designed by Sidse Werner in 1981 for Holmegaard in collaboration with Royal Copenhagen.

Handmade by Holmegaard for Royal Copenhagen in Denmark between 1981 and 1984.

Approximately 38cm high including the original lamp holder (the glass part is 28cm high) and 14cm wide at its base.

Excellent fully working vintage condition with original stickers.

Sidse Werner was a Danish architect and industrial designer, probably best known for her iconic 1971 Coat Tree design for Fritz Hansen. She died in 1989.

It has been rewired and retro-fitted with a switch on the cable enabling the base light to be switched off at the lamp rather than at the wall. Originally, only the top bulb could have been switched off at the lamp.

We can fit a British/Irish, European, Aus/NZ or American* plug.

It takes a E27 bulb, maximum 60w (not included) in the top part and an E14 bulb in the base.

*If used in the USA/100/110/120v we recommend using an energy saving/LED bulb. E26 bulbs should work but because they are 1mm smaller they need to be fully turned to ensure they make contact with the fitting. We would send an adapter so that an US standard E12 (candelabra) bulb can be used in the base.
