Holmegaard Danish Skibsglas Ships Glass - Shot Snaps size.

Sparkling clear glass. Handmade in Denmark in the 1970s. 10cm tall. Excellent vintage condition. With original sticker and in its original box.

A lovely gift for a sailor! Each glass in the Ships Glass range was named after a role on a traditional wooden brig. This size is the 'Bosun' (Boatswain) and is described as providing 'a man's size serving (of snaps)'!

Designed for snaps (schnapps). Would also be ideal for vodka or Tequila.

In Denmark, snaps is usually a potato based spirit called Akvavit that is served as chilled shots at celebratory dinners, usually paired with pickled herring on rye bread. Earlier generations enjoyed a fortifying morning shot of snaps to set them up for the day - Akvavit means ‘water of life’ (Latin).

Designed by Per Lutken in 1971. The ‘Danske Skibsglas’ or ‘Danish Ship's Glass’ range was designed to have excellent weighting and balance properties (so they didn’t fall over when the boat hit rough seas!) and to feel wonderful against the lips. It was one of Holmegaard’s most popular ever ranges of stemware and inspired many copies. This is an original and there is an obvious quality and clarity to it and it’s considerably weightier than the lookalikes.

Note that we have attempted to show and state the condition as accurately as possible but this is a pre-loved, vintage item and some minor signs of age and/or use are to be expected. There may also be slight variations in the colours shown due to lighting, the camera lens and the device the image is viewed through. Handmade items may have slight imperfections, such as air bubbles in glass, which add to their uniqueness and charm.
