Picquot Ware Coffee Aladdin Tea Pot Set 1950s British Design Piquot Dad Fathers Mens Presents Gifts
Picquot Ware British English Teapot Coffee Jug Retro 1950s 1960s
A stylish 5 piece vintage tea set in good condition - this set has the stylish and much rarer 'Aladdin' teapot.
Designed in 1947 and made in Northampton, England. The cool retro writing on the bases indicated this set was probably made in the 1960s.
Made in a metal works factory that made parts for Spitfires and other aircraft during the war, presumably by the same skilled craftsman.
Made of one piece of mould cast aluminium with solid sycamore wood handles. The base of the tray is very mid century melamine.
The set has been has been cleaned up and polished.
In very good vintage condition with minor signs of age as shown in the photos.
The wood is in excellent condition.
The metal work is in good condition, with an excellent shine, but with some areas of scuffing & scratches, and internal staining from decades of bringing the British nation its favourite beverage!
5 piece set comprises of: teapot; coffee/hot water jug, milk jug, lidded sugar bowl; and tray.
The Model T4 'Aladdin' teapot was designed to make 4 cups of tea and holds approximately 1.5 pints, 850ml. It is 17cm high, 20cm wide.
The jug was originally designed as a hot water jug to accompany a tea set or, curiously, "for instant coffee'. I'm sure the team behind the jug wouldn't mind if you decanted filter or espresso coffee into it! It is approximately 18cm high and 18cm wide. It holds approximately 2 pints or 1 litre.
It is made of an aluminum alloy, Magnalium, that was specially produced for the range and polishes up beautifully whilst retaining that lovely vintage patina. Picquotware was cast in one piece to minimise leaks when pouring, with the spout designed to be non-drip. The solid consultation is excellent at retaining heat.
The handles are made of sycamore wood. When plastic became fashionable and very widely used in the 1960s, the team at Picquot came under pressure to switch to plastic but they resisted saying that nothing has the same beauty as real wood.
Note that we have attempted to show and state the condition as accurately as possible but this is a pre-loved, vintage item and some minor signs of age and/or use are to be expected. There may also inevitably be slight variations in the colours shown due to lighting, the camera lens and the device the image is viewed through.
