Frandsen Danish Magnetic Enamel Table Wall Lamp.
When I was a child in the 1980s my sister and I had these cute lamps on our bedroom walls, she had yellow and I had red!!
Brown enamelled metal lamp on a black plastic stand. In very good vintage condition with minor signs of age.
Vintage magnetic enamel ball lamp, designed by Benny Frandsen in 1968. Made by ES Horn in Aalestrup, Denmark, in the 1970s.
The enamel ball is connected by magnetism to its stand, enabling it be moved to direct the light as required. The stand can be used as a base for a table lamp or attached to the wall as wall light. When removed from its stand the lamp can be hung from the ceiling as a small pendant light.
15cm high. 10cm wide. The lamp is in full working good vintage condition with minor signs of age and use. We have left the coloured enamel as we have found it, leaving you free to enjoy its patina or respray it any colour you like (as was quite usual to do in Denmark).
It has a European plug but we can fit a British/Irish, Aus/NZ plug or American* plug. It takes a E14 SES bulb, maximum 40w.
*If used in the USA/100/110/120v we recommend using a low energy/LED bulb, maximum 7w. E14 bulbs should be available online in North America or alternatively you can purchase a low cost E14>E12 adapter to enable it to take E12 bulbs, which are more easily available in North America.
Frandsen's 1968 design was probably influenced by Verner Panton's 1959 'Topan' Lamp. The Frandsen Ball was originally produced as a 18cm wide pendant and magnetic wall lamp in brown and orange, the fashionable colours of the day, The magnetic wall lamp, in particular, became extremely popular in Denmark in the 1970s/80s and most Danish homes would have had at least one. These days ball lamps are made by the Frandsen company in China, but back then they were made by several Scandinavian lighting companies.
Note that we have attempted to show and state the condition as accurately as possible but this is a pre-loved, vintage item and some minor signs of age and/or use are to be expected. There may also be slight variations in the colours shown due to lighting, the camera lens and the device the image is viewed through.
